Jason, the devil
Jason's chapter was ultimately a big reveal of what a huge jerk he is. A continuous theme throughout the entire chapter was his blatant bitterness toward everyone and everything, the only character he shows slight sympathy to is his mom, but this is merely to take advantage of her. In fact, his horrible attitude is identified in the very first line of this chapter, "once a bitch, always a bitch." This line set the tone for the rest of the chapter. Whether it was mocking his brother'a suicide, or his generalization of all girls as sluts, Jason is an angry, angry man. He has a big mouth and yet never follows through in action. For example he says to give a woman a "bust in the jaw" to set her straight, and yet he never lays a finger on miss Quentin. My questions for this chapter are how does Jason follow the theme of time throughout the novel and what sparked his ridiculous bitterness.

Nikolah, I agree that Jason has motivation but doesn't carry out his thoughts. I think Jason follows the theme of time because he hangs onto events of the past like the others, but not as strongly. For example, he is still bitter over the fact that he lost his job at the bank because of Caddy. Good job!
ReplyDeleteFirst of all, I like your post title, "Jason, the devil", because I don't think any other word fully describes his character besides that. But I also agree that Jason has a lot of malicious thoughts that he never actually carries out, and most of those thoughts are blaming his problems on others.
ReplyDeleteI think you summed up Jason's character perfectly. I think the answer to the question at the end of the post is that Jason is just a jerk I don't think anything happened to make him bitter.
ReplyDeleteYou're right, Jason is a complete jerk. And I also like your comment that he talks, but never really puts anything into action. However, he is motivated and does try, but some force always holds him back.
